Darling

E-mail Print

Darling was always famous for wild flowers, butter and the annual orchid show at Duckitt Nurseries. These days you can add the somewhat imposing figure of Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout to the picturesque Swartland village's attractions.

Forsaking all further ambassadorial ambitions, Evita has, along with her poodle Puccini, made her home in the dorpie. The gravy train no longer stops at Evita se Perron, but you can catch the lady herself (alias Pieter-Dirk Uys) talking kaktus at this lively station café.

If you fancy a really good chuckle, then do not forget to head for Darling (one hour away) and go and see Pieter Dirk-Uys at Evita se Perron. His (or should that be her?) shows are really fabulous. Tel 022 492 2831. The theatre has a reasonable restaurant and, even if you don't have a meal there, you are welcome to enjoy something to drink during the show. We highly recommend you pop in and visit Evita; a good laugh is guaranteed (unless you’re a dishonest politician, in which case it’s best avoided).
